Zagreb
Geodetska škola in Zagreb, Croatia is a secondary vocational school which educates Technitians of
Land Surveying and Geomatics. The education lasts four years and its students, mostly boys, are 15-
19 years old. There are 362 students and 34 teachers. A number of students come from modest
social background, some even from considerably underpriviledged families. There are general courses (Maths, Physics, Croatian, English/German, History, Geography, Religion/Ethics), vocational ones (Land Surveying, Field Practice, Geodetic Calculus, Cadastre, IT, GIS)and some optional
courses (Surveying in Preserving Heritage, Cartography..). The motivation in joining this project is also to empower the European dimension of the school, to strenghten the multicultural understanding and tolerance of the students, to foster their inclusion of underprivileged people including immigrants, to get them to know the diversity of cultural heritage of others and their own, to appreciate the value of heritage and to encourage them to work on preservation of material heritage, so they can be proud and self-confident European citizans. The topic of this projects relates to one of the basic tasks of land surveyors/geodesists and that is to establish and maintain state borders and boundaries of private properties. Through the project the students can gain broader social insight into borders and share different experiences of other EU nations regarding borders, life and tangible and untangible cultural heritage around them as well as get to know immigration issues. Our students can also present their field work regarding boundaries and borders using modern ICT and and show different kinds of borders to other participants as Croatia is comparatively a small country. The key people in charge of running the project of Geodetska škola will be a foreign langage teacher (Damira Zubčić, English and German teacher) together with vocational teachers and ICT specialists (Snježana Car, Armando Slaviček). - The school does not have much Erasmus+ experience but for 20 years it has
played an important role in the global school internet project ’This is our Time’, initiated for and developed in cooperation with the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet). Also the school has always been committed to developing ICT knowledge and it has been one of the leading
schools in Croatia regarding ICT implementation. It has been chosen to be a part of the National Pilot Project of ICT Development (Carnet). Many teachers have been devoted to various other international and national projects as well (e.g. Mrs Car in Eratosthenes Project and Mr Slaviček in AUTOCad competitions). Since last year the school has been participating in the Erasmus+ K2 project Here Map Makers on Digital Cartography. The students and teachers are going to pass on this experience and knowledge to other participants of this project. The students with Mrs Zubčić have also been active in an eTwinning project Debates.
